Associate Professor Özlem Erden-Basaran from TED University Faculty of Education has published a new article titled “Turkish and US Future-Teachers on War and Peace Education” in AERA Open.
Co-authored with Gulistan Gursel-Bilgin and David J. Flinders, the study offers a comparative analysis of how future-teachers in Türkiye and the United States understand war, peace, and peace education. The findings reveal that these understandings are shaped by national, cultural, and contextual factors rather than reflecting a universal perspective.
The article highlights that peace education is not a neutral concept, but one that is deeply embedded in sociopolitical contexts and lived experiences. By bringing together perspectives from two different countries, the study contributes to ongoing discussionsin teacher education, curriculum studies, and peace education.
